Welcome To The Miken Builders Blog!

For more than three decades, Miken Builders has been building and renovating homes along the Delaware coast, from Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island to Lewes. Over those years, we've learned a lot about what makes a coastal home last and what makes the building process go smoothly. We've also learned what homeowners wish they'd known before they started.

That’s why we’re starting this blog.

A 1990’s Miken Build in Bethany Beach

Building or renovating a home is one of the biggest investments people take on, and it comes with a lot of questions. How much will it cost? How long will it take? What does building near the water really involve? Should you renovate what you have or start fresh? Our goal is to answer those questions honestly and clearly, from people who build here every day.

Once a month, we'll share practical advice on planning your project and working with a builder. We'll cover choosing materials that stand up to salt air and storms, and caring for your home once it's built. We'll also take you inside some of our recent projects and introduce you to the team that makes them happen.

Whether you're dreaming about a custom home, planning a renovation, or just curious about what goes into building at the beach, we're glad you're here.

Next month, we'll start with one of the most important topics of all: the questions you should asking a builder before you hire them.

Zoe

Zoe Cummings leads company development at Miken Builders, where she runs the business alongside her husband, Sean. Born and raised in New Zealand, she moved to the United States to be with Sean and joined Miken in 2022 after five years in real estate. At Miken, she was instrumental in managing sales and selections for Southern Landing, the company's community. That work gave her a close-up view of what homeowners care about most when they build. When she's not working, Zoe loves spending time outdoors with Sean and their three kids.
